With the latest update to its "How Google Search Works" web page, Google has revealed a more than interesting fact to consider:

In 2020, more than 4,500 changes were made to its Search system.

1. Google's changes.

In general, Google makes multiple changes to its algorithm system throughout the year.

A series of changes, referred to as "improvements" and among which we find changes on the classification, in the user interface or in the page experience itself.

Considering that in 2019 Google registered around 3,200 changes in its Search system, it is quite evident that the update rate continues to rise. Moreover, this pace of changes, did not seem to be affected with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. A very different situation from other sectors that had to completely stop their activity.

All these changes that Google makes in the algorithms of its Search Systems, respond to its objective of showing users the highest quality content possible. An example of this is the different Core Updates presented in 2020.

As we can see, the main goal is to continue improving the overall user experience. Even if this sometimes means worsening the positioning of quality content that had done a good job previously.

2. Update to "How Google Search Works"

Originally launched in 2013 in infographic format and relaunched again in 2017, the How Google Search Works website has been completely redesigned.

In it, the company shows, in an accessible way, different explanatory resources about how Google Search works. With these new updates, this site provides basic information on how the algorithm is responsible for finding the best results for each search.

That is, how all the information on the network is organized to connect it correctly to each search term. To facilitate access to all this information, links to different resources, videos and an answer section have also been added.

3. What Quarizmi says

There is no doubt that this is a good example of certain concessions that Google makes from time to time with its own information.

In this case, advertisers and marketers have access to concrete data about Search that can help them better understand how the platform works. Data that can be useful to them in the goal of improving their results and the reach of their content.

But putting this information on the table also provides food for thought:

4,500 changes is a good number of changes. Too many for a single year.

If we also consider that in 2010, Google made 1 change per day, with 4,500 per year...

We have about 12 changes per DAY.

Think about it. Even 1 change DAILY in the Search System is too much.

It means having to be on the lookout every day to change something that has worked up to that point. It means an investment of time and effort that not everyone wants or can afford.
